Once again TV has focused on Huntsville and “The Walls.” Sam Houston State’s own Dan Rather (CBS) of tonight’s 60 Minutes II gets close to the execution process, zeroing in on the Sept. 27 execution of Ricky McGinn for the rape and murder of his 12-year-old stepdaughter, Stephanie Flanary. Interviewing prisonOfficials, the offender and his family and the victim and her family, Rather gives viewers a closer look at this controversial subject. McGinn was the first Texas death row inmate to have an original death sentence date (June 1) put aside for DNA testing by Gov. GeorgeBush. The DNA results were positive for McGinn’s DNA, and the execution date was reset. Sixty Minutes II, “A Close Look at Final Hours of Condemned Man in Texas,” CBS, airs tonight at 8 p.m.
