Family Football Day kicks off Saturday

The Office of the Vice President for Student Services is hosting the fourth annual Family Football Day at noon on Saturday.The event will be part the tailgate activities before the football game against Southwest Texas State. Family Football Day will be located in the tent for Office of the Vice President for Student Services near the ticket booth. “Dr. (Thelma) Douglass started the program in 1998, basically to thank SHSU faculty and staff that have collaborated on various programs for students,” said Debbie Nichols, assistant to the vice president of Student Services. “We would like to thank them [staff and faculty] for all their hard work with the division.”SHSU faculty and staff have collaborated on programs sponsored by Office of the Vice President for Student Services division such as EXCEL Student Enrichment, SAM C.A.R.E.S. and Faculty/Student Mentorship Program, said Nichols.Students, staff and faculty will receive free admission to the game with proper identification. The Office of the Vice President for Student Services will distribute tickets to those staff and faculty members who have help with the divisions programs and come by the tent, said Nichols. “The tickets are for their family members,” said Nichols. “We give the tickets away so that we can sit as a unit to celebrate and support our football team. We will also have giveaways.”The Office of Vice President for Student Services’ tent is a tailgate party, said Nichols. Free food and drinks will be provided. “We want students to come out to the tent to say hi and meet us,” said Nichols. “We want the SHSU community to come by so that we can say thanks.””I started the Family Football Day as a way for families to enjoy the atmosphere of campus while attending the game. It helps people to get to know one another and share in the fun with family,” said Douglass, vice president of Student Services.
