The Lady Kat softball team is now 8-6 on the season, thanks to a sweep of Prairie View A&M and three losses to Stephen F. Austin last week.The Lady Kats swept Prairie View A&M in a double header on Thursday. In the first game, Freshman Rachel Atzenhoffer pitched a no-hitter, the 10th no-hitter in SHSU softball history. Sam Houston batted a team average of .384 to beat the Pantherettes 5-0. Kim Hargis went 2-for-3 and April Bardwell went 2-for-2 scoring two runs. In the second game of the double header, the Kats led 2-0 until the fourth, when Deven Mikulin hit a hom erun. Along with her home run, Mikulin had a one-run double in the 6th to lead the Lady Kats to their fourth straight victory, 8-0. Bardwell went 2-for 3 and Hargis drove in two runs. To add with great hitting, Christin Thompson pitched a one-hitter along while recording four strikeouts. In the three-game conference opening series for both teams on Sunday, the Stephen F. Austin Lady Jacks won game one of the series 5-3. The Lady Jacks led 5-0 through the 6th inning, until the Kats started to fight back. Bardwell went 3-for 3, driving in one and scoring two runs. The Lady Kats out hit the Lady Jacks 11-7, but couldnt produce enough runs down the stretch. In game two, a 5-3 SFA win, the Kats led 2-1 through the first four innings. The Lady Jacks went on a hot streak in the fifth by scoring three runs. Aydrien Guajardo pitched four innings, giving up six hits and four runs. In game three, the Kats were shut out 6-0, giving the Lady Jacks a sweep in the opening conference series. Mikulin started a rally in the second by hitting a double, but a double play by right-fielder Lady Jack Lekita Baker sent the Kats and their chances of scoring downhill. The Lady Kats play the University of Houston Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Bearkat Softball Complex. The Lady Kats also have a double header on Wednesday against Louisiana Tech, starting at 1 p.m.
