The University of Louisiana-Monroe completed a three-game sweep Sunday beating the Sam Houston State baseball team 4-1 improving its record to 29-14 and 14-7 in Southland Conference play.Monroe pitcher Brian Schriner struck out six batters and allowed five hits, improving his season record to 5-1. Schriner and SHSU pitcher Jeff Vanlandingham both pitched all eight innings. Vanlandingham struck out six batters, and allowed four earned runs on six hits. Jaime Estrada of ULM opened up the game with a triple in the bottom of the first, and scored on a sacrifice fly to make the score 1-0. The Indians scored again in the fourth after Jesse Hoorelbeke ripped a double to advance Willie Core to third base.Sam Houston (15-30 overall, and 6-18 in the SLC) answered back in the fifth when Jeremy Locke hit a solo home run to make the score 2-1. But, Hoorelbeke improved the Indians lead in the bottom of the inning with a two-run homer to make the score 4-1. Saturday, explosive offense for the Indians allowed the team to take two games from the Bearkats, wining 17-5 and 13-9. SHSU will host a non-conference game against Houston Baptist today at 3 p.m. at Holleman Field. The team will finish conference play with a three-game series against Nicholls State this weekend at Holleman Field.
