MTV representives to hold campus promotion today in LDB mall area

A college label representative for Columbia Records and MTV will be visiting Sam Houston State tomorrow to promote Destinys Child new CD, “Survivor.”The visit is part of a new MTV program called “First Listen,” and will allow students to hear the CD before it is released nationally during the first week of May. The representative will have a disc jockey, equipment and will play tracks from “Survivor.” Brandon Cooper, vice president of public relations for Program Council, said promotional items will be given away, including free copies of the CD and a signed poster of the band. Items with the MTV logo will also be given away, including computer bags and hackey sacks.Program Council is very excited and pumped that MTV is coming to SHSU, Cooper said. “We want Bearkats to come out and help support this and give them (MTV) a good impression of what SHSU is all about,” Cooper said. According to Cooper, MTV contacted SHSU originally about the visit, and told Program Council that they wanted to try something new and would like to try it out at SHSU. Cooper also said MTV chose SHSU because the campus is close to Houston, and because MTV has never visited the campus before.”First Listen” will take us place in the Lee Drain mall area from 12-2 p.m.
