Sam Houston State’s presidential search committee met on campus last week, but no finalists have been announced.According to Lamar Urbanovsky, chancellor of the Texas State University System, it is going to stay that way for a little while longer.”Right now, we are planning to announce the finalists at our board meeting on June 7,” Urbanovsky said. “We had over 70 candidates initially and we’ve narrowed that down to about 10, but that number might grow.”Urbanovsky said during the meeting last week, the committee was concerned with reference checks on applicants. Two more meetings are planned during the next month, before the board announces the finalists. The finalists will be interviewed over the summer.Despite the fact SHSU president Bobby Marks has said his wish to retire before the fall semester, Urbanovsky said the committee is not rushing the process.”Marks said he would like to leave by Aug. 31,” Urbanovsky said. “But he has said that he could stay around a little longer until a new president is in place.”
