Well folks, it is now time for the 2003 spring tennis season to come to a close.
Luckily, it will not end without one last bout of great tennis.
This afternoon at 2 p.m., the Bearkat tennis team will face off with Stephen F. Austin State University to conclude conference play for the year.
This match is not only the end of the season, but it is also one of the most important matches of the year.
The squad has suffered too many losses this season to advance to the Southland Conference Tournament.
The University of Texas- Arlington and the University of Texas at San Antonio finished at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots this season, as they did last season
The rivalry between SHSU and Stephen F. Austin is a fierce one, as most of you know, in just about every sport. However, for the SHSU tennis team, this is for not only bragging rights, but for pride. There is always a fierce intensity in the air when these two teams meet.
Though the Bearkats have been able to post only one conference win this season, this match is more important than conference, this match is for pride.
I have been so lucky as to be a part of this tennis rivalry, and it is definitely a strong one. Each year, the matches get better and better, in both singles and doubles.
If you have the chance to attend, the match will be held at the McAdams Tennis Center directly behind the Residence Life building. It will no doubt produce some of the best tennis we’ve seen this season.
