Volleyball suffers weekend losses

With only four Southland Conference games left for the SHSU volleyball team, the Bearkats have found themselves one place out of the post season tournament after two losses over the weekend.A dominating Lamar team put the Bearkats away Friday, 22-30, 30-19, 30-18, 30-21.Lamar racked up 62 kills, 84 defensive digs and nine team blocks, while SHSU had only 40 kills, 59 defensive digs and five team blocks.Saturday night was even more disappointing with a three game shut out by McNeese State, 30-25, 30-23, 30-28.The Cowboys’ defense was on during the match, totaling 86 defensive digs and 11 blocks during the match. SHSU managed 51 digs and six blocks.The Bearkats are trailing the University of Texas-San Antonio with two more losses.SHSU must still face Stephen F. Austin (11-3), Southwest Texas (5-9), Southeastern Louisiana (10-4) and Nicholls State (5-10). SFA and Southeastern Louisiana are ahead of SHSU in conference play, but the Bearkats beat SFA in a meeting earlier in the season, 24-30, 30-24, 30-28, 23-30, 15-13.UTSA has six matches ahead of them against Southeastern Louisiana, Nicholls State, the University of Texas-Arlington, Louisiana-Monroe, Northwestern State and Southwest Texas.If the teams tie, UTSA will will the tie breaker by virtue of two wins over the Bearkats earlier in the season.
