Fiddler another quality production by SHSU theater

Fiddler on the Roof, a production by the Sam Houston State Department of Theatre and Dance, began last night in the Mainstage Theatre.The musical stars Spencer Plachy as Tevye, Ashlee Parker as Golde, Rhonda Curfman as Tzeitel and Matt Tompkins as Motel.The play is set in Anatevka, a small village in Russia, in 1905. It is the beginning of the Russian Revolution, and a group of Jewish villagers must face political change and the disappearance of the traditions that they hold dear. The story is told through a mixture of song, dance, love, sorrow and humor. The main character is the father, Tevye, who must face turmoil and the changes in the lives of his five daughters.Dr. Thomas Soare directs the play. The talented cast interacts well and the musical score contains beautiful performed songs. The costumes and set are simple, and yet are effective in portraying quaint village life.Performances are April 4-7 at 8 p.m. and April 7 at 2 p.m. The prices are $12 for general admission and $10 for SHSU students or senior citizens.
