Sam Houston State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance will present Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple: The Female Version” on Wednesday, Nov. 7 through Saturday, Nov. 10 at 8 p.m. in the Showcase Theatre. There will also be a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday, Nov. 10.Written by Simon in 1986, the play is the story of Olive, a sloppy divorcee, and Florence, a meticulous housewife, who has recently separated from her husband. In the production, Olive is played by Kira Brasel and Florence is played by Tracilyn Jones. Florence and Olive decide to bunk together after Florence’s marriage falls apart, and the results of this arrangement are truly hilarious. The classic comedy is fast-paced and zany as the two women learn about life, love and each other while struggling for control of the apartment and of their lives.The production is directed by senior theater major Sharna Christensen. Other cast members include Johnna Meyer, Jennifer Davies, Julie Linnard, Katie Hughes, Jayson Rivera and Jeremy Rodriguez. Junior theater major Crystal Lee stage-manages the show. The set was designed by senior theater major Kevin Kyle, while the lighting design was formulated by senior theater major Joel McDonald. Sound was designed by sophomore theater major Connor Bartley and costumes were created by senior theater major Amanda Bauer.
