The art department is hosting a retrospective art show of the work of retiring Sam Houston State Universitys art department professor Dr. Gene Eastman in the Gaddis Geeslin Gallery. Forty-three pieces will be featured in the show. “Most of the works on display will be oils, watercolors and drawings, with a few etchings,” said Eastman. All the work was done during Eastmans career at SHSU that began in 1958. As well as teaching at SHSU, Eastman taught at the Houston Museum of Fine Art school at night and during the summer. Eastman has taught drawing and painting classes and specializes in life drawing. “Ive enjoyed teaching at Sam Houston and teaching art,” Eastman said. After he retires in May, Eastman plans to continue painting and working on his art. A reception will be held in the gallery Feb. 8 from 5-7p.m. The exhibit is free to the public and will run until March 1.
