The women’s tennis team split a two-game road trip over the weekend defeating Texas Lutheran University 7-0 and losing to Trinity University 6-1.Ivette Andrade led the Bearkat team in the win over the Bulldogs defeating their No. 1 player Allison Wright in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.She had an equally successful match against Trinity’s top player Lizzie Yasser. Andrade worked hard to pull out the match after dropping the first game 4-6. She clenched the match with 6-2 and 7-6 wins.”Yasser knocked off North Texas’ No. 1 player earlier in the day in straight sets, so that was a nice win for Ivette,” said coach Michael Hunt.Andrade teamed up with doubles partner Diala Ammar for more success on the court, beating the top teams from both Texas Lurtheran and Trinity.Andrade and Ammar defeated the Bulldog team of Wright and Jenny Growcock 8-4 and the Tiger team of Yasser and Abbe Ulrich 8-5.”Ivette and Diala are a very smart doubles team, which you would expect from seniors,” Hunt said. “They have solid fundamentals and do a good job with court positioning and strategy.”While Hunt said the team was disappointed with the result of the weekend, it was not disappointed by the overall effort.”We are still trying to learn how to compete at a Division I level, but it takes time and we are a very young team,” Hunt said. “Hopefully, playing against a school with the tradition and track record of Trinity will help us out when we get to the conference season.”The team will see its next action Feb. 9 at noon when it faces off with Texas-Pan American at home.
