The Sam Houston State volleyball team’s conference skid continued over the weekend as it was beaten by Texas Arlington 30-17, 30-24 and 30-18 at Texas Hall.Olaya Pazo led a Maverick attack that hit .396 with 11 kills. Amber Pack and Caley Smith each added nine kills. During the three game match, UTA’s offense was credited with only six errors.”They’re good,” said Brenda Gray, SHSU head coach. “They are a good team and they have confidence. You put those two things together and they’re tough to beat.”Carrie Sartain led the Bearkats with 16 kills in 38 attempts. Liz Dahlstrom totaled eight kills and Dana Jefferson added seven. The Kats hit only .115 with 26 errors.Karlee Butler (pictured left) was credited with assists on 31 of the Bearkats’ 38 kills.The Kats will play three matches this week, traveling to San Marcos tonight for a 7 p.m. match against Southwest Texas State.”We’ve got to get back on track,” Gray said. “We were a much better team a month ago and we need to start playing the way we were. I’m not going to give up on my team though.”The Kats will host home matches at Johnson Coliseum on Friday and Saturday against Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls State, respectively.Start time for the Southeastern Louisiana match has been moved from 7 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. The Nicholls State match will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
