Sept. 13, 2002 will mark the sixth anniversary of the death of one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time. Below is a time line that highlights the milestones in his life. o 1971-Tupac Amaru Shakur is born on June 16.o Sept. 1983- 12-year-old Shakur enrolls in Harlem’s 127th Street Ensemble, where he played Travis in “A Raisin in the Sun”.o June 1986-The Shakur family moves to Baltimore, Md., where he begins rapping under the alias of MC New York.o Sept. 1986-Shakur studies art and drama at the Baltimore School for the Arts.o June 1988-The Shakur family moves to Marine City, Calif.o Jan. 1991-Shakur joins Digital Underground.o Oct. 1991-Shakur releases his first album, “2Pacalypse Now”. The album went gold.o Oct. 1991-Shakur made his film debut in the movie, “Juice”, as Bishop, a crazed teen that wanted to run the streets.o Feb. 1993-Shakur releases “Strictly for My N.I.G.G.A.Z.”, which went platinum.o July 1993-Shakur co-stars in “Poetic Justice” with Janet Jackson as a postal worker named Lucky.o Mar. 1994-Shakur plays the role of Birdie in “Above the Rim”.o Sept. 1994-Shakur’s album, “Thug Life” is certified gold.o Apr. 1995-Shakur’s “Me Against the World” album is released and is later certified double platinum.o Feb. 1996-Shakur releases the first rap double CD, “All Eyez On Me”. It is later certified platinum nine times.o Sept. 13, 1996-Shakur dies from complications due to multiple gun shot wounds acquired on Sept. 6.o Nov. 1996-Shakur releases “Makaveli” which later went platinum five times.o Jan. 1997-Shakur’s film “Gridlock’d” is released.o Fall 1997-“Gang Related”, Shakur’s final film, was released.o Nov. 1997-Shakur’s album, “R U Still Down? Remember Me” is released. It is later certified quadruple platinum.o Nov. 1998-“2Pac’s Greatest Hits” is released and becomes platinum nine times.o July 1999-The Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation holds its first Summer Performing Arts Camp.o Oct. 1999-“The Rose that Grew from Concrete”, a book of Shakur’s original poetry was released and to date has sold over 150,000 copies.o Dec. 1999-The album, “Still I Rise” is released, and within the month, is certified platinum.o Nov. 2000-Various Artists express themselves through Shakur’s poetry on the album, “The Rose that Grew from Concrete”.Tupac Amaru Shakur left a hole in the world that cannot be replaced.
