The Bearkat men’s basketball team will take on the Basketball Travelers in an exhibition game Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Bernard Johnson Coliseum on campus. The team kicked off the season with an 82-78 score over the Athletes First in an exhibition game last Monday.Men’s head basketball coach Bob Marlin said the team has been working on their offensive and defensive strategies for the upcoming exhibition. “We are trying to fine tune some of the things we have been working on,” said Marlin. “We are more concerned with how we play than the opposition, so we do not do a lot of scouting for the exhibition games.”The upcoming game will be used more to determine the strengths and weakness for the Bearkats as the team prepares for this season, Marlin said. Bearkat coaches will be more concerned with how the team performs at the game, rather than scouting out the opposing team. “Offensive execution and defensive intensity – those are two things that we want to work on,” Marlin said. “We want to get better offensively and make the proper rotations defensively.”Junior Eddy Fobbs, senior Eddy Barlow and freshman Chris Jordan have played very good during the last weeks of practice with the team, he said. Marlin said they plan to start a different group from the team to see how they handle coming off the bench at the game. “We are going to play some different combinations, and we may start a different group to see how they respond instead of coming off the bench to starting,” Marlin said. “We will look at those things as well, and hopefully we can pick it up.”The Bearkats will travel to Texas Christian University in Fort Worth for the first game of the season on Nov. 22 at 8 p.m.The Kats will be back at home on Nov. 26 for a game against Austin College at 7 p.m. “Hopefully we can get the fans and the students out here before everyone takes off for the holiday,” Marlin said. “We have an exciting group and we certainly need the university and the community support.”
