Kat Klub entertains students before and after classes on a daily basis

Sam Houston State has provided a recreation area for students to unwind between classes called the Kat Klub. Located in the Lowman Student Center, the Kat Klub is designed to allow students fun before, between and after class.

The Kat Klub houses multiple pool and table tennis tables, two large screen televisions, a professional sound system, an arcade room and many more distractions for students looking to kill time.

The Kat Klub is also a place to meet other students in the spirit of friendly competition.

Janay Wrigley, a junior business administration major and employee of the Kat Klub, said various tournaments and contests are constantly beginning.

“We have a pool league that meets every Tuesday,” Wrigley said. “We had a domino tournament recently, and we have a ping pong tournament coming up.”

However, Wrigley said tournaments are not the main focus of the Kat Klub at the moment. More important, Wrigley said, is drawing students into the game room to have a good time.

“We are trying to get more people to come by offering different specials,” Wrigley said. “Right now we have free table tennis and half price pool deals.”

Jennifer Mitchell, a junior RTV major, said she thinks the Kat Klub’s goal of giving students a place to relax is a success.

“It’s a good place to go if you just want to sit and chill, or watch TV,” Mitchell said. She also said that during quieter times, one could go there to study.

According to Mitchell, the Kat Klub’s busiest hours are Mondays through Thursdays, from about 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Lots of people come and spend some of their lunch hour here,” Mitchell said.

Sophomore William Harrison said he attends the Klub mostly for the billiard tables.

“It’s fun to visit the Kat Klub and shoot some pool,” Harrison said. “Whether it’s for a friendly game, to meet people or in the spirit of competition.”

Jason Wright, a junior political science major, had never heard of the Kat Klub, but said he thinks it’s a good idea.

“I’ve been wanting for a place to kill time between classes,” Wright said.

Wright said the Klub’s location in the LSC also makes it convenient for people who don’t have time to go off campus during short breaks in their daily schedule.

“Leaving campus between classes would mean giving up my parking spot, so for someone like me, this is ideal,” Wright said.

The Kat Klub is located on the bottom floor of the LSC. It is open Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on weekends from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
