The beginning of the Sam Houston State men and women’s basketball seasons is something of great excitement on campus.
The men have a chance to defend their conference title and the women have a new coaching staff and a chance to turn things around.
The men’s squad was picked to finish 10th in the conference this season after earning its first ever NCAA Tournament birth last year.
The Lady Kats and new head coach Wooly Hatchell that will try to improve on last season’ s 7-20 record.
Fans will have a chance to meet the teams when they host a Tip-Off Barbecue Monday, Nov. 10, at 6:30 p.m. at the Johnson Coliseum.
The event is to be catered by McKenzie’s Barbeque. The meal will cost $6.50 per person.
Players and coaches from both the men and women’s 2003-04 squads will be available for autographs.
There also will be a small silent auction on memorabilia from the 2003 Southland Conference championship and NCAA Tournament team.
The Tip-Off Barbecue is open to all fans. Both the men and women’s basketball teams play preseason exhibition games this week. Tuesday, Nov. 11. The men’s team faces off with Team Exybond at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13.
