Letterman’s Association to induct former Sam Houston athletes

Four former athletes of Sam will be inducted into the Lettermen Association Hall of Honors on Nov. 8 during the Homecoming game.

Those to be inducted are: Andre Finley, Charles Harris, Richard Johnson and Donnie Massengale.

The Lettermen Association recognizes athletes of Sam who have brought credit to the university. The Hall of Honor award is given to individuals such as coaches, officials, players and staff who have provided an outstanding service to the university in the field of athletics.

Jack Kyle, secretary and treasurer of the Lettermen Association, said that each nominee is elected on a point scale.

“Ten nominees from the master list are voted on by the entire council,” Kyle said. “The four with a score totaling the lowest number of points according to the point scale will be inducted into the Hall of Honors.”

In 1971 the SHSU Lettermen Association held its first Hall of Honor. Since then, 132 individuals have been recognized. The Lettermen Association will celebrate its 75th anniversary during the Homecoming game and will introduce the four former athletes into the Hall of Honors during the half time program.
