Sigma Nus rally up for Saturday tournament

The Sigma Nu fraternity will sponsor its 4th annual Sigma Nu Softball Tournament on Saturday starting at about 10 a.m. at Josey Field.

“We do this to raise money for our philanthropy, the Multiple Sclerosis Society,” said Sigma Nu member Jimmy Hammond.

Teams comprised of Sigma Nu members from across the state will be representing chapters from such universities as Baylor, the University of Texas, Texas Tech, Southwest Texas State, Stephen F. Austin and Texas A&M.

“In the past, people from all over have played,” Hammond said.

Each team pays an entry fee to participate in the event, which is how the fraternity raises money for their charity.

In addition, each brother from the SHSU chapter raises money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society by getting sponsorship from local businesses and anyone who may want to donate money to the cause.

Hammond said the event has traditionally had a good turnout and is a good opportunity to meet people from other chapters.

“It’s a great thing because it gives us a chance to raise money for a good cause, while at the same time, having a friendly competition,” he said.

Everyone is welcome to attend the event, which will last all day, according to Hammond.

“We always go to Murski’s after the games and have a good time,” he said.
