Program council looking for new members

The Program Council of Sam Houston State University is holding a recruitment party Wednesday from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Lowman Student Center Kat Club. The party will allow students to learn more about the organization and meet PC officers and committee chairs. “Everybody is just going to hang out and have fun,” said Stryker Stinnette, program chair of PC. “Members of the program council will be there to talk to students one-on-one to answer any questions about program council.”PC coordinates and executes on-campus activities such as homecoming and casino night. In addition, PC organized a drive-in movie at Colony Park last month and holds a “slam poet” event every month, Stinnette said.”We try to do well-being and cultural events,” said Stinnette. “In addition to having fun, we want people to learn.”The organization is made up of three executive officers and seven committee chairs. Five of the chairs are general committees and the other two are Black and Hispanic heritage committees, said Program Coordinator Jason Gomez.”PC is a fun organization,” said Gomez. “We have about 50 events planned for the year. We want to find people to help plan and execute the events.”PC also encourages students to get involved and apply for a committee chair or executive office in the fall, Gomez said. The requirement to run for a chair or executive officer is a 2.3 grade point average, but there are no requirements to be a PC member.”PC is a lot of fun. I like the people in it,” said Stinnette. “The event should be successful. It’s a pretty big event. We’re planning for a lot of people to come.”
