SHSU Theatre and Dance to host Gala

SHSU’s Department of Theatre and Dance will hold their annual Scholarship Gala at the University Theatre Center this Saturday, September 13 at 5:30 p.m. The annual gala is an evening of entertainment in order to raise money for students majoring in theatre, dance and musical theatre. This year’s fundraiser is titled “The Great Bearkat Kaper” featuring SHSU mascot, Sammy Bearkat. The evening’s main attraction is a performance given by the theatre, dance and musical theatre students who will take viewers on an adventure around the world searching for Sammy Bearkat. The performance will be scattered with musical numbers from famous shows such as The Fantastiks, The Pirates of Penzance and Tomfoolery. The closing number will feature SHSU Notables Bruce and Carol Hay, Mary Francis Park, Ben and Nancy Wilson, Nick and Ethel Nicholson and Larry Graves. The evening will provide more entertainment than just the main show. This would enable the department to give forty $1,000 scholarships. Tickets are $50 per person, $500 per table, or $750 for one of the two captain’s tables.
