Student forum to be held to discuss campus issues and concerns

The SHSU Student Government Association and the Dean of Students’ Office wil host the ninth annual Bear F.A.C.T.S. Forum (Fielding Academic and Co-Curricular Topics of Students) for students on Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m. in the Kat Klub Entertainment Center, located on the first floor of the Lowman Student Center.

This forum gives students a chance to ask questions of administrators from different departments about topics that affect the general student population.

During last year’s BearFACTS Forum, students expressed their concerns about tickets being issued out at graduation ceremonies and several problems in the radio and television department.

University President Dr. James Gaertner and Vice-President of Student Services, Dr. Thelma Douglass will be among those administrators in attendance to answer students’ questions.

Following the forum will be a “Safety Walk” at 7:15 p.m., in which students and administrators will walk around the campus to find dark spots and other problem areas around campus.

Student Government Vice-President Betsy Dominguez believes that the event will keep students informed about what is going on around campus.

“They should attend because it allows them to be informed about campus issues and problems, and it gives them a face-to-face chance with administrators to be able to get those questions answered,” said Dominguez.

The evening will begin with free pizza and refreshments being served at 6 p.m., followed by the forum starting at 6:30 p.m.

The Safety Walk is expected to last until 8:30 p.m. Students in attendance will also be given the chance to win drawings for cash and other door prizes to be given away throughout the evening.
