New residence hall to open doors next fall

A new parking garage will be built on campus, but it will be underground of the new residence hall called Sam Houston Village.

Located on the northwest end of campus across from Jackson-Shaver, Sam Houston Village will be the newest addition to apartment housing on campus. This new facility is set to open Fall of 2004 and will accommodate 546 freshmen only.

Similar to Bearkat Village, each room will house two students and will include two bedrooms (one for each student), a bathroom, and a living area. The room will be furnish and will include a kitchenette with a microwave and an under-the-counter refrigerator.

New services will be available for this new apartment housing. The garage built directly below the facility will be reserved only for the students living in the residence hall.

Other services will include elevators, a courtyard and free internet connection among other things. A new card access security will be installed to insure safety entrance to the apartment.

Dana Grant, Assistant Director for Finance and Marketing, said that the new card access feature will be applied to other facilities as well.

“The key card will be used throughout the campus, but it will start with all the resident halls fall of 2004,” Grant said.

Rent is set at $425 per month for the 2004-2005 academic year. Incoming freshmen can apply for Sam Houston Village as soon as they are accepted to the university.

More details of Sam Houston Viilage will be available in the Spring.
