Looking for Handouts

Kudos to Lee Finlay!! I’m on board with Mr. Finlay’s remarks. I was so disheartened by the comments of my fellow students regarding the price of the official SHSU rings (and every other thing on campus that they feel they are entitled to). I’m fed up with this generation expecting to be given everything they want. The only things you are entitled to are life, liberty and the PURSUIT of happiness – in short – an opportunity, and what you do with that opportunity is up to you. A new concept should be introduced here… working for what you want. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy free stuff as much as the next person but I also enjoy the satisfaction of accomplishment – earning what I feel I deserve. It is much more gratifying to earn something than just to be handed it. If you feel the ring is too expensive, don’t purchase it. If you feel the garage is too expensive, don’t park in it. Better yet, turn your complaining into something more productive… do something about it. Write letters, suggest alternatives but don’t just sit there and gripe about it. You’ve been given this wonderful opportunity to attend an institution of higher learning. There are many people who don’t get this opportunity. Don’t squander your potential expecting a handout. Go out and achieve it, work for it, earn it – the rewards are much greater, in every aspect, this way.
