Today will end a two month long fundraiser by SHSU’s Alpha Kappa Alpha and Zeta Tau Alpha organizations to raise awareness about breast cancer through Yoplait’s Save Lids to Save Lives campaign.
The two organizations, who both are breast cancer philanthropists, began the fundraiser by posting signs and getting the word out to save pink Yoplait lids. The lids were saved by students and organizations all over campus and dropped off at the SGA office.
Kyla Beguesse, President of Alpha Kappa Alpha, said that the two organizations worked really well together. “We are hoping the fundraiser is something that gets bigger every year,” said Beguesse. Zeta Tau Alpha Vice President, Stefanie Jones, said, “ZTA would love to work again with AKA to help raise money to fight breast cancer.”
For every pink lid saved, Yoplait will make a 10-cent donation to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer foundation. On its sixth year anniversary of the promotion, Yoplait hopes to reach their goal of donating $2 million.
The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is a worldwide leader in breast cancer awareness and research. Founded more than 20 years ago, the foundation was established in memory of Nancy Goodman Brinker’s sister, Susan Goodman Komen, who lost her battle with breast cancer.
The pink Yoplait lids can be dropped off at the SGA office through today. For more information on how to get involved call the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation at 1-800- 462-9273 or visit http://www.komen.org.
