Gay Marriage

Same sex marriages: Why Not?

Why is it that people want to hate other people and disallow them basic rights based on a belief, or a phenotype? Throughout our (human) history, people have been hating and persecuting other people. In religious history, people have killed one other because they believed in a different invisible man than others. As for race, white elitists didn’t want blacks to have the same basic civil rights just because of the color of their skin. Now people don’t want gays, lesbians, and transgendered people to have the basic rights heterosexuals have because of their sexuality.

What is wrong with two people being allowed the right to live together, in wedlock, in the eyes of the government? They are allowed to have the same rights that heterosexuals have. Are you afraid that two people who love each other very much and want to get married are going to eat your children, criticize your wardrobe, and turn everything “Gay”? Come on, you really need to grow up and learn to accept people. Gay couples who wish to wed are going to live together, in your town, be your neighbors, and have sex with each other whether you like it or not. The only thing they want is to have their union recognized by the state and have the same liberties that heterosexual married couples have. Nothing is going to change. The union of marriage isn’t going to alter dramatically. If straight people really took it seriously, then the divorce rate wouldn’t be as high as it is in the first place.

Don’t give me the unjustified reason that it was how you were brought up. Klansmen brought up their children to hate blacks and anyone else different from them, but you don’t see all of their descendants hating blacks and thinking the same way their forefathers did. Things change and people change their way of thinking. Things have not been the same for the last 6,000 years as Mr. Farah thinks. According to him gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, so of course we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven’t adapted to things like cars or longer lifespans, right Mr. Farah? Also according to Mr. Farah legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. For instance people may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract. Being homosexual is natural and an act of God (if you choose to believe in Him/Her). Homosexuality has been seen in almost all life forms; if you don’t believe me look it up. Read a modern genetics book. The fact is that homosexuality is normal. Homosexuals have been around forever. Read history books and old literature; it is talked about in novel form because it wasn’t discussed at the dinner table. Are we, as a society, still that primitive?

If you think that you don’t want homosexuals to be married because it breaks the bond of the church; that is between you and your church. Mainstream homosexual advocates are not looking to change the church; they are looking to change the government. We are supposed to have a separation of church and state. Some people don’t want that, but it is only fair to those who don’t want to have the church they aren’t a member of imposing on their basic freedoms. Homosexuals just want to have the basic right that their heterosexual counterparts have. If the church opposes it, they will get married by a Justice of the Peace or an accepting religious affiliate. The church, as a private organization can disallow anyone the right to enter or participate in functions within in confines.

Acceptance rather than hate should be spread to all people in all walks of life. Homosexuality should be included, and that means letting them have the same basic liberties as everyone else. These people are not menaces to society; they are fully functioning, active contributors to everyone’s everyday life. Hate is hate. If you think that homosexuality is a morality issue and that people of ill morals shouldn’t get married, then no-one should have a second marriage. If you believe that no sinner should be allowed to marry, that means that no one would get married at all. No person is clean from sin and the ways of sin. Homosexuals are people too. They only want to get married to profess their love for one another. If you don’t understand that, then you have no heart. If you don’t agree with it, then don’t participate in it. But don’t disallow it just because of your selfish ill wishes. Just because Jews or Buddhist don’t have the same morals as you, should they not be allowed to be married either? What about the Mormons, the Muslims, Jehovah’s Witnesses? Just like any other human, they want to profess their love to each other and the rest of America or wherever they live. They want and deserve the legal right that any other married couple has. They want the government to acknowledge their decision and commitment to each other, not just the appeal of a union blessed by a church.

This is about right and wrong. It is wrong to preach hate. It is wrong to disallow anyone their basic freedoms based on any type of value. Homosexuals are not criminals. They are people who deserve what should be available to them. Gender preferences should not be taken into account.
