CJ dean to host trip to China next week

Dean and Director of the Criminal Justice Center, Dr. Richard Ward, is hosting a trip for a group of US law enforcement officials.

The group will travel to Beijing, China to attend the annual meeting of Asian Association of Police Studies from Oct. 15-23.

Dr. Ward, who has been to China over 60 times since 1983, has been an advisor to the Asian Association of Police Studies. He and his team will meet and have dinner with Hong Kong police.

They will also plan to visit some of the historical and mysterious places and inventions in China like Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City and the Bund.

The purpose of the AAPS conference is to establish the international forum for the presentation and to discuss the research findings and applications by academics and practitioners.

This year’s conference will be co-hosted by the Public Security University.

The Beijing conference will present research papers and presentations on current developments in Asia, and a roundtable session on American criminal justice systems

will also be a part of the meeting.

The participants of the conference come from various different fields including law enforcement, private security, crime and victimization. The goal of the conference is to exchange up-to-date research results and advance police/security practice and research.

“This is one of many international initiatives in the College,” said Ward.

Participants in such conferences have contributed to a significant increase in our international graduate students population.

The Criminal Justice Center at SHSU held the AAPS conference once before in 2004, which was held for the first time in the United States.
