SHSU runs at San Marcos Classic

The Sam Houston State women’s cross country team won the Texas State-San Marcos Classic on Saturday with four Bearkats finishing in the top 10.

Not to be outdone, the men’s cross country team took second place at the Classic with three runners finishing in the top 10.

For the women, Erika Wright led the Bearkats by finishing 4th overall and coming in with a time of 18 minutes and 20 seconds on the 4800 meter course. Five other members of the women’s team finished in the top 20.

The women’s team finished with 36 points, beating the second place team from the University of Texas by six points.

On the men’s side, Josh Hawkins also finished in 4th place overall.The men’s course was 8,000 meters, and Hawkins completed the course in 26 minutes and seven seconds.

The men finished behind Texas State-San Marcos and had four additional team members place in the top 20.

The next meet for the Bearkats will take place on Monday Oct. 17 in Beaumont for the Lamar Invitational.Two weeks later, the Bearkats will be in Beaumont again for the Southland Conference Championship scheduled for Oct. 31.
