Philosophy department show videos, discuss life emotions

With the recent increase in philosophy majors, the department of philosophy has opened its doors to all SHSU students interested in discussing the major issues of life presented by a series of videos that ignite immediate emotions.

“They [the video tapes] are useful because they have a number of people discussing points of views, but they also interweave the stories with real life,” said Dr. Frank Fair, Coordinator of Philosophy Program.

The first of the three group meetings took place last Friday when both students and professors viewed “The Examined Life” video, which posed the question, “Do we know God through experiences?”

After the video, the floor was open for discussion, which was SHSU senior Winfield Williams’ favorite part.

“It’s a good thing to be around like-minded individuals and to be involved in stimulating conversation,” stated Williams.

Williams and other students were presented with issues to discuss also by the professors in attendance.

More group discussions will take place on Friday, Oct. 21 and again on Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. in room 313 of Academic Building 4.
