The third annual Grassroots speech presentation was held on Wed. Oct. 19 in room 214 of the LDB. The series, titled “Grassroots: A Series of Conversations on Leadership in a Diverse Community,” highlighted Keith Marrocco, National Vice President of Operations for Mexican American Engineers and Scientists (MAES). The speech took the format of an interview between him and senior Roxanne Sustaita, Psychology major.
“I’m delighted to say we’ve achieved a great number of successes [with this program],” Dr. Bernice Strauss, Director of Academic Support Programs said. “It’s a pleasure for me to highlight students and allow them to speak with guests from off of campus.”
The speech was attended by roughly 75 students and covered everything from Marrocco’s family background to his successes in MAES. Most importantly is the wisdom he passed on about leadership
“In order to be successful you need patience and the ability to listen,” Marrocco said. “Especially with engineers because they are so stubborn.”
The presentation was followed by a reception in the SAM Center.
