Videos foster philosophy discussions

The SHSU philosophy department is teaming with activity as it continues its video discussion series and prepares for the addition of a new tenured professor in fall 2006. The video discussion series is an open discussion of major philosophical questions reinforced by footage from the series The Examined Life. The philosophy department is prepared to hire a new tenured professor, raising the number of tenured professors in the department to four.

“This is the first new tenure-track position we have had since Dr. Sanford joined us in the fall of 1998,” Frank Fair, Coordinator of the Philosophy Program said. “We are looking forward to hiring our new colleague after a national search.”

A tenured professor is a professor who is hired without obligation to follow the university’s viewpoints and is unable to be fired on such grounds.

The video discussion groups have been running since Oct. 14 in AB4 room 313 from 2-2:50 p.m. on Fridays.

The last discussion will occur on Nov. 4, and the subject will be “What is Art?”
