Pitcher Shalayne Blythe and infielder Lauren Boone are first team selections while shortstop Tanya Hooser and outfielder Stephanie Mosley are second team honorees on the 2006 Preseason All-Southland Conference team announced Jan. 26 by the SLC office in Plano.
The members of the 2006 preseason All-SLC squad were selected by vote of the Southland Conference’s head softball coaches.
Blythe was Southland Conference “Pitcher of the Year” and the league’s “Freshman of the Year” after rolling up a 0.83 earned run average in Southland Conference action last year. Blythe tossed seven shutouts including a perfect game against Southeastern Louisiana last year.
Boone, also, was a first team All-Southland Conference selection last year. The senior ranks as SHSU’s all-time leading hitter (.383 career average) and led the SLC in hitting in 2005 with a .414 average. Hooser earned third team All-Southland Conference honors last year as a shortstop. She started 53 games, ranking fourth on squad in hitting (.306). Hooser posted 10 multiple hit games and six multiple RBI performances, hitting .329 in SLC action.
Mosley also was a third team All-Southland Conference selection. She ranked ninth in Southland Conference hitting (.340) and sixth in league in doubles (13). She started 42 games in left field and four in center field, producing 16 multiple hit games including a four for four performance against McNeese.
