Golf team finishes ninth at Rice Invitational

HOUSTON — Stewart Bannatyne and Graham Hoy both tied for 21st in the individual medalist standings to lead the Sam Houston State men’s golf team to a ninth place team finish in the Bearkats’ first tournament on their 2006 spring schedule Monday and Tuesday.

Santa Clara University of California won the team title with a score of 304-289-296–889. The Bearkat men shot a team total of 311-298-301–910. Colorado State was the team runner-up with an 894 total, followed by Rice 898, Texas-San Antonio 899, Pacific and Louisiana-Lafayette 904, Louisiana-Monroe 908, Miami (Ohio) 909, SHSU 910, Richmond 912, Louisiana Tech 916, Stephen F. Austin 918, North Carolina-Greensboro 924 and Tulane 925.

Other Sam Houston State finishes were Robert Gwin 29th with a 277, Caleb Bales 56th with a 234 and Benjamin Smith 62nd with a 236.
