Sam Houston State University’s women’s basketball team faces a “do-or-die” situation Thursday night when they play host to the Lamar University Cardinals at 7 p.m. at Johnson Coliseum.
The Bearkat women’s playoff hopes for 2006 hang in the balance.
The top eight finishers in the Southland Conference race earn berths in the tournament.
SHSU currently stands one-half game out of eighth place.
Northwestern State (3-7 in league play) currently ranks eighth. SHSU (3-8) and Nicholls State stand tied for ninth. Lamar (2-8) is in last place.
“Obviously this is an important game for us,” SHSU Head Coach Wooly Hatchell said. “It’s good to be back home. We’ve played well our last two home games and need to get back in the groove for the stretch run.”
Adah Wells, Jamie Davison and Erica Parker lead the Bearkats in scoring this season. Wells is averaging 9.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest. Davison is adding 9.1 points per game and Parker 8.0.
