Sam Houston track squads set records

Both the Sam Houston State University men and women’s teams posted school record point totals to equal or better their best indoor finishes as both Bearkats squads posted runner-up team finishes in the 27th annual Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday.

The meet was held at the Bill Yeoman Athletic Center at the University of Houston.

Final women’s standings were Stephen F. Austin State 105.3, Sam Houston 104, Texas State-San Marcos 102.3, Lamar 90, Texas-San Antonio 81, Texas-Arlington 74.3, Northwestern STate 40, Louisiana-Monroe 33,

Southeastern Louisiana 28 and McNeese State 3.

The performance marked the second year in a row for SHSU’s women to finish as runners-up in the SLC indoor.

Final men’s standings were Texas-San Antonio 111, Sam Houston State 104.3, Stephen F. Austin St. 103, Texas-Arlington 84, Northwestern St. 78, McNeese St. 47.5, Southeastern Louisiana 43, Louisiana-Monroe 40, Texas St-San Marco 34.2 and Lamar 18.

The Bearkat men’s highest previous team finish was third in 2003 and 2004.
