SHSU softball blanks A&M Corpus, 8-0

HOUSTON — A 8-0 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday highlighted action in the University of Houston Marriott Hobby Invitational softball tournament for Sam Houston State this weekend.

Shalayne Blythe tossed a one-hitter as the Kats shut out Texas A&M-Corpus Chrsti 8-0 for their first victory in the University of Houston Invitational Saturday.

The Bearkats scored their eight runs on nine hits and two Islander errors. Elizabeth Gibson led the Kats at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs, a double and a home run.

Blythe faced 19 Islander batters, striking out two and walking two. In SHSU’s opening game of the tournament, Baylor pitcher Lisa Ferguson threw a five-inning one-hitter and third baseman Brette Reagan batted in three runs as the Bears blanked Sam Houston State 9-0 in action at the University

of Houston’s softball tournament Friday evening.

The Houston Cougars defeated Sam Houston 7-2 in the Bearkats’ second contest at the tournament.

Next action for Sam Houston State will be March 1 when the Bearkats play host to Texas A&M .
