DENTON — Led by freshman Irina Sotnikova and sophomore Lata Assudani, who won both their matches at one and two singles, respectively, and teamed for a decisive number one doubles win, Sam Houston State women’s tennis gained a split on a road trip to Denton Saturday.
The Bearkats lost to the University of Arkansas-Little Rock 4-2, then bounced back to defeat North Texas 4-3. Both matches were held indoors due
to inclement weather.
The split evens Sam Houston State’s women’s tennis dual match record this season to 2-2.
“This weekend was a real test for us against two good tennis programs,” SHSU head coach Scott Shankles said. “I feel good about where we finished. Not everyone stepped up in the match with UALR, but when it came time to play North Texas, the whole team came ready to play and showed it.”
