Golf team finishes fourth at SFA tourny

LUFKIN — Caleb Bales and Graham Hoy posted 36-hole scores of 149 to tie for 12th place in the individual medalist standings and lead Sam Houston State University to a fourth place team finish in the Stephen F. Austin Crown Classic Tuesday at Crown Colony Golf Course.

Missouri State won the team championship with a 36-hole total of 592. Oral Roberts tied for the team title but lost in a scorecard playoff decided by the individual totals of the two team’s number five players.

The first 18 holes of the tournament was canceled due to rain so only 36 holes were played.

Texas-Pan American edged SHSU for third by three strokes. UTPA shot 596 and SHSU 599.
