Following up on last year’s success in having students select Sam Houston State University’s homecoming theme, the 2006 homecoming steering committee is seeking ideas for this fall’s annual event.
Students, faculty and staff can share their theme ideas by placing them in one of the boxes located on campus or submitting them online. The deadline for nominations is March 31.
After a homecoming subcommittee narrows down the possibilities, students will vote on the theme and a $200 cash prize will be given to the winner. In case of a tie there will be drawing to determine the recipient of the prize.
Three boxes will be located in the Lowman Student Center: at the student activities office, the information desk and the food court near the convenience store. A fourth box will be at the Health and Kinesiology Center. Nominations can also be made by logging onto the Web site https://www2.shsu.edu/alum07wp/.
Once the nominations have been submitted, the homecoming promotions subcommittee will select three to five finalists. Students will then have a chance to vote on the themes at the same time as the Student Government Association elections, which will be held April 11-12.
“The homecoming steering committee wants students to be involved in the process because we feel their input is important, and we want them to be involved,” said director of alumni relations Karen Gray.
Last year’s theme, “Viva Huntsvegas,” was an overwhelmingly popular choice of students. Other recent themes have been “Birthday Bash,” in honor of the university’s 125th anniversary celebration and “Paint the Town Orange.”
