Rhythm Section album release party

The Rhythm Section is having an album release concert on March 29 at the Old Town Theater from 9:30 p.m. to midnight, and admission will be set at $5. It is the official concert event in honor of their new album, “Traume,” the German word for dreams.

“We felt that the title was appropriate because with this music, we’re chasing a dream,” King said. “Anyone that knows our music and our sound might be surprised at what this album offers.”

The album does not offer the kind of music consistently seen at the band’s live shows, including what King calls “jamming out and pounding out rhythmic riffs.” According to King, the album is more intimate and on a different level lyrically.

“I’m really proud of it, and I feel that it has substance to it,” he said. “It’s a sign of where our music is going.”

As far as where the band has been going lately, their usual train of shows from College Station to Huntsville to Houston has remained intact in preparation for the album’s release.

“We have been visiting open mic nights around town and in Houston. Open mic nights are a good way to meet people and find places to play full shows,” band member Winfield Williams said.

The multitude of shows the group has been playing has also given the group the freedom needed to develop their sound.

“We’ve been working out ways to expand our music, mainly in the advent of vocal styling,” Williams said. “After recording the CD in January, I think we have become more focused and diligent in creating new music.”

The band has also succeeded in enlarging their sets with new material and enhancing their older material because they are planning on moving to New York to pursue their musical careers.

“There’s a really good music scene going on out there and we want to be a part of it,” King said. “I really feel that in a short time, we’ve matured musically and we are growing into our sound, but because we never heard it anywhere else, it was always hard to find where we fit in. That’s not the case anymore.”

The group has a few shows coming up in the Houston area. On April 21 and May 5, they will play shows at the Vintage Bar in Houston, and they also have a show scheduled at the Sugarland Civic Arena on April 22. However, this show is one the group is looking especially forward to.

“We’re really excited about this show because it’s one of our last shows in Huntsville, and it’s one of the last times that we’re going to be able to jam out with our friends and fellow students,” King said.
