Bearkats beat Mavs 4-3 in 10 innings

HUNTSVILLE — Stephanie Mosley’s two-out single in the bottom of the 10th inning scored Kendra Spivey to give Sam Houston State University a 4-3 extra innings victory over Texas-Arlington in the third game of a Southland Conference softball series Sunday at the Bearkat Softball Complex.

Trailing 3-0, the Bearkats tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as Spivey hit a two-run single and later scored thanks to two Maverick errors.

Texas-Arlington (19-12, SLC 10-3) swept a doubleheader from the Bearkats Saturday night to go home with two victories in the three game series. Sam Houston State (17-17, SLC 8-7), hosts a non-conference doubleheader with Baylor Wednesday.

Shalayne Blythe (9-10) got the victory for Sam Houston, striking out six Mavericks and giving up only seven hits in 10 innings.
