Suspicious actions alert officers of intoxication

Last week, while patrolling the 1300 block of 17th Street a university police officer observed a young female screaming for help, while standing inside of a dumpster.

When the officer approached her, the female screamed obscenities and fled the scene. The officer later apprehended her and discovered that the woman was in possession of drug paraphernalia and that she was extremely intoxicated. The 27-year-old Hartford, Illinois resident is not a student.

She was transported to Walker Country Jail but was then moved to Huntsville Memorial Hospital due to her high level of intoxication, according to an April 23 UPD press release. The female was cited with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Public Intoxication.

Another incident occurred last week when officers observed a mud-covered female student walking in front of a construction site on the 2100 block of Avenue I. The female, a student at Sam Houston State University, was found by officers to be highly intoxicated and was subsequently booked at Walker County Jail for the offense of Public Intoxication.

The incidents bring the total count of alcohol related offenses reported by university police to 19 for April.
