HUNTSVILLE — Chris Thompson and Bobbie Hilliard, two athletic administrators with long histories of service to the Bearkat program, have been promoted in a reorganization of the Sam Houston State University athletic department.
Director of athletics Bobby Williams has announced that Thompson will be named associate athletic director for student services while Hillard will be associate athletic director for finance.
A member of the athletic staff since 1974, Bobbie Hilliard oversees all business and financial matters for the department.
Thompson has worked at Sam Houston as a coach and an administrator since 1982. She directs the university’s athletic academic support program and is Sam Houston’s senior women’s athletic administrator. Both Hilliard and Thompson are Sam Houston graduates.
“Bobbie Hillard and Chris Thompson have done so much behind the scenes to help guide the Sam Houston athletic program into its position in the Southland Conference today, ” Williams said.
“They are two loyal Bearkats whose caring and love for our student-athletes shows in their work every day. Sam Houston has won back-to-back Southland Conference Commissioner’s Cup all-sports championships and also the past two years, produced more Southland Conference Academic Honor Roll student-athletes than any other program in our league. It is a pleasure to be able to recognize two outstanding individuals in this manner.”
Hilliard helps administer the university’s athletic budget for all 16 varsity sports, working with all areas of the department’s operations including scholarships, equipment, human resources, tickets and fundraising.
Thompson serves as the university’s athletic certification officer and is responsible of the athletic learning enhancement center, computer lab and athletic advisement center, working with all student-athletes on class schedules, tutors, degree plan selection, career selection and academic advisement.
