Officers of the University Police Department wrapped up a case of credit card fraud Tuesday with the arrest of an Sam Houston State University student.
Kayla Stewart, 18, was booked into the Walker County Jail on Tuesday and was released later that day on a $500 bond. Another individual, who is not a student of SHSU, was also arrested in the case on Sept. 7.
The credit card and unauthorized purchases were reported to UPD by a resident of Creager House on Sept. 5.
According to UPD Chief Dennis Culak, Stewart racked up charges of over $4,000 on the card at locations in Conroe and the Houston area.
“The charges were well in excess of $4,000. A lot of it was clothing, and some was groceries,” Culak said. “But most of the charges were on clothes.”
Both offenders face charges of credit card abuse, a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in prison and a fine.
