My second best idea

As a kid, my hero was Michael Buffer. While his name may not ring a bell, you definitely know the voice; Michael Buffer is the professional ring announcer who coined the popular catchphrase, “Let’s get ready to rumble!”

Years ago, Buffer trademarked that phrase and it made him a millionaire. Nowadays, every time someone wants to say, “Let’s get ready to rumble!” they have to ask Michael first.

For years, I have been trying to come up with a catchphrase that will make me rich. Last Tuesday I finally found one, and you cannot have it.

You cannot hear it either, at least not yet. It has not yet been trademarked, and I know there are people who read newspaper columns in hopes of stealing an un-trademarked catchphrase.

It is my best idea ever, and you cannot have it. But what you can have is my second best idea.

I won’t be needing it anymore since my first idea is so good, and since I don’t believe in wasting good ideas, feel free to claim it as your own and do with it what you will. Maybe when I’m rich from my best idea, and you are rich from my second best idea, we can smoke cigars together on a balcony and laugh and create more ideas.

Then we can give our ideas to poor people and they can become rich. Perhaps in turn, they will pay it forward and share their ideas with other people who would in turn become rich.

Soon, everyone would be rich, all because of me. That’s a good idea. The more I think about it, it is actually my new best idea ever. So now you can have my original first best idea – the catchphrase.

“Rack ’em on the big boy.”
