Bearkats take down UT-SA

HUNTSVILLE — Led by Cynthia Yarotsky and Lindsey Roebken, who each had 19 kills, Sam Houston State University defeated Texas-San Antonio 30-20 13-30 30-28 24-30 15-13 Saturday afternoon to jump back into the Southland Conference volleyball playoff picture.

Sam Houston (10-13, SLC 5-8) ended a four-match losing streak with the victory to climb back among the top eight teams in the Southland Conferences. Eight of the league’s 12 teams make the SLC tournament.

Texas-San Antonio (15-12, SLC 7-5) was led by Meagan Daniel with 18 kills and Connie Picard with 17.

Christie Feliz totaled 21 kills to lead Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to a 30-26 30-27 32-30 victory over Sam Houston State in Southland Conference volleyball action Friday night at Johnson Coliseum.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (6-15, SLC 5-6) moved ahead of Sam Houston State (9-13, SLC 4-8) Southland’s Western Division race. The Islanders now stand in fifth place while Sam Houston fell into sixth.

Lindsey Roebken led Sam Houston with 11 kills.

The Islanders trailed only once in the first game, but the second game was tied 14 times before TAMUCC pulled it out. Sam Houston built a 13-6 lead early in the third game but Corpus Christi came back to sweep in three.
