Hall of Fame pitcher Ryan to speak at Bearkat baseball dinner

Nolan Ryan, one of the greatest baseball players in Major League history, is traveling to Huntsville on Feb. 3 to meet with fans of Bearkat baseball and speak as a part of the Sam Houston State University Baseball Team’s Meet the Players Night.

Those in attendance will be able to meet Ryan, a Hall of Fame pitcher, as well as the members of the 2007 Bearkat Baseball team.

“This is a great opportunity for baseball fans,” Head coach Mark Johnson said. “Fans will have the opportunity to be in the presence and hear inspirational words from one of the greatest pitchers in the history of baseball, but also meet the special young men who will be taking the field for the Bearkats in 2007. The banquet has all the makings for a very special occasion.”

Tickets to the event are $35 for each individual, $50 for couples and $200 for a table with a maximum of eight people per table.

The evening will also include live and silent auctions of various items, according to Ridings. Proceeds will go to the SHSU Baseball team enrichment fund to help benefit the program with scholarships and other expenses.

Bearkats assistant coach Justin Hill said he was unsure if Ryan would sign autographs.

The Bearkats open their first season under new head coach Johnson on Feb. 8 in a three-game series at home against the Brigham Young Cougars.
