(SID) – Jessica Fisher of Sam Houston State, a freshman from Houston Worthing High School, has been named Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Women’s “Athlete of the Week.” Fisher broke two Sam Houston school records and tied another at the Houston
Indoor Invitational at Bill Yeoman Fieldhouse Saturday. Fisher won the 200-meter dash (school record 24.74) finishing ahead of 51 runners including athletes from eight Southland Conference schools. She was runner-up in the 60-meter dash, tying school record with 7.50; and she ran the second leg on school record 4×400 relay (3:48.22) that finished third.
“Jessica has been so intent on learning and improving,” Sam Houston head track and field coach Curtis Collier said. “During the first four weeks, she has been getting better and better. With assistant coach Dave Self’s patient mentoring and Jessica’s talent and coachability, we are getting more immediate results in her development than we initially expected.”
