The Southland Conferences’ regular season championship is on the line this Saturday at Johnson Coliseum.
The Bearkat men’s basketball team squares off against the Islanders of Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
As of today, the Islanders lead the Southland’s western division with a record of 13-2 after a 69-65 victory over the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks last night.
The Bearkats sit second in the division at 12-2 and have a chance to win the division if they are victorious in their last two regular season games, tonight and Saturday respectively.
The Kats travel to San Antonio tonight to face a Roadrunner squad they have already beaten 76-64 earlier this year in Huntsville. If the Bearkats win tonight, they will have an opportunity to win the western division championship with a win against Texas A&M Corpus Christi on the last regular season home game this coming Saturday night at Johnson Coliseum.
If everything goes right for the Bearkats, both teams will end the season with 13-2 conference records with the tiebreaker going to Sam Houston State after the previous win in Corpus earlier this season.
Earlier in February, the Kats rallied from behind and outscored the Islanders 44-33 in the second half to take grasp of the Southland Conference.
Four Kats scored in double digits, led by Aaron Wade’s 19 points and 18 from Ryan Bright.
