Kats defeat UT-Pan American 11-10 in three-hour game at Al Ogletree Classic

EDINBURG (SID) – Nick Zaleski’s run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning scored the winning run as Sam Houston State rallied for an 11-10 victory over Texas-Pan American on the final day of the Al Ogletree Classic at Edinburg Stadium Sunday afternoon.

During the three hour, 36 minute marathon, Sam Houston State (10-6) produced 14 hits and scored three runs on Bronc errors to win two of their three contests in the event. The Bearkats defeated UTSA 3-1 Saturday after falling to Illinois 14-5 Friday night.

Karl Krailo led the Bearkats at the plate, going four for five with one RBI and scoring two runs. Bobby Verbick went two for five with a three-run home run in the fourth inning. Keith Stein and Todd Sebek each brought in two runs.

Tim Gray started for the Bearkats, giving up seven runs on six hits while striking out four batters in two and one third innings. Stephen Spaugh, Zac Baker, and Luke Prihoda all pitched in relief. Prihoda (2-0) got the victory, giving up only one hit in the final three innings.

Sam Houston State will play host to Dallas Baptist in a Tuesday night single game at Don Sanders Stadium in Huntsville. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m.
